Important Upcoming Events!

Hey Springfield Crew,

As I am sure you are all aware of, THON is now only 24 days away. What does that mean? That means that there are copious amounts of Springfield and THON events going on leading up to THON weekend. I want to make sure you are all aware of what is going on in the realm of Springfield and THON over the course of the next few weeks:

I want to remind you all that the deadline for being considered for a Final Four Hour Pass for THON is quickly approaching. You must e-mail springfieldthon@gmail.com before midnight on Friday, Jan. 29th to be considered for a pass. There will be no exceptions.

I hope that everyone is getting excited for the Springfield Ten Thousand Villages Fundraiser next week! If you would like to be a part of the committee for the fundraiser, you can still sign up by e-mailing Jeff (jcs5207@gmail.com) by Thursday. Springfield has a Facebook event for the fundraiser, and we are also going to be handing out flyers to promote the event. I would like to ask each of you to do your part and help us get the word out for the fundraiser. Word of mouth can be extremely powerful for these types of events. Please check out the flyer for the sale and distribute it to people you know!

This weekend Springfield will be raffle-booking around State College, selling our tickets door-to-door. If you have not signed up to go, and would like to OR if you are able to go and drive as well, please e-mail Claire (clairexu89@gmail.com) by Thursday to go. We will be going from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Sunday. Remember guys, this is our last weekend to sell these tickets and we will be drawing the winning tickets during our meeting this Sunday!

I want to make everyone aware of the THON blood drives that are going on from now up until THON around campus. This is extremely important because not only can you donate blood and help save a life, but for every individual to even attempts to donate blood, $4 will be donated to the organization of your choice (Springfield!). All you guys have to do is sign up for a time to give blood or just show up at the site on that day and say that you want your $4 to go to Springfield! Check out the list of times, dates and locations for the THON blood drives : http://centre.redcross.org/blood_drives.htm

I hope you all are getting excited for the Springfield Ice Skating Event this Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Penn State Ice Rink. It is $5 to go and skate (with rental skates - $3.50 without rentals), and Springfield can get a group discount if enough people sign up and pay ahead of time. Please e-mail Gabbie (gabrielle.gort@gmail.com) if you would like to go ice skating!

Wednesday, Feb. 3 will be the first ever Springfield Pageant, (Mr. and Mrs. Springfield). The event will start at 8:30 p.m. and be held in the Simmons Dining Hall. Please come out and support your fellow Springfielders for a night of fun!

The fourth and final canning weekend of the year is only a few weeks away! Feb. 12-14 is the last canning weekend and you can sign up now by e-mailing Brittney(kern.brittney@gmail.com) if you would like to go. It would be fantastic if anyone would be able to volunteer to host and/or drive for the weekend. Please let Brittney know if you would like to do so.

On Monday night there will be a Kids Mail Social in the Simmons Mail Room to write mail for our Springfield kids to open THON weekend. The social will be at 7:30 p.m. and should be a lot of fun!

Tomorrow is THON's Philly Pretzel Factory Twists for the Kids. A portion of your order will be donated to THON all day tomorrow. I would encourage anyone to stop by if they can and help make an easy donation to THON!

Saturday, Feb. 6 is the THON Hoops Game, and a portion of your ticket purchase goes to THON. Also, the Colons will be here for the game that day, and this is a fantastic way to have a family visit in State College! I cannot stress enough how important it is for you all to get to know the families if you want to be really involved in Springfield. I know it is difficult sometimes to go on a family visit out of town because they can be an all-day affair, but this is a perfect way to meet/hang out with one of our families without even having to leave State College. I strongly recommend going to the game and hanging out with the Colons! We should have a great crowd of Springfielders in the stands!

Also, later that night (Feb. 6) we will be holding what has become a Springfield tradition: we will be viewing the movie "300" in Simmons TV Lounge at 6 p.m.. Since we are Springfield Spartans for THON, this is a great way to pump us up for everything leading up to THON weekend!

I want to remind everyone, especially those who weren't able to go to the meeting on Sunday, that our PassList signups will be going on this Sunday after the meeting. If you would like to be on the floor at all THON weekend for Springfield you MUST be on our PassList. Please e-mail Jeff (jcs5207@gmail.com) if you would like to be on the PassList.

Last but not least, here is the link to the new video synopsis of Springfield's fall semester, compliments of Claire Xu!

Please, as always, send us an e-mail if you have any questions, concerns or anything involving THON and Springfield. Thanks everyone.
